August 17: Ultima Consolatio Day

On his day in 1250, Franciscan philosopher and theologian Raimundus Lullus declared alcohol to be the “ultima consolatio corporus humani,” which translates into, “the greatest comfort for the human body.” Drinking enthusiasts of the day responded with, “Anche, li ottiene bevuti.”  Which means, “Also, it gets you loaded.”
